SEVEN HILLS HOMELESS CENTER

Our “Kitchen Angels” prepare a home-cooked meal each month to deliver and serve to clients of Seven Hills Homeless Center. Collection sites in the church encourage donations to help meet ongoing needs. We are a founding sponsor of “Shelter Jam” musical event at George’s Majestic Lounge held each fall in support of Seven Hills.

COOPERATIVE EMERGENCY OUTREACH

We are a founding member of Cooperative Emergency Outreach (1649 E. Huntsville Rd. Fayetteville), an agency supported by more than 20 area churches. It assists people who face critical financial hardships and are in need of food, clothing, rental/utility assistance, or gasoline. Collection sites are located in the church for food donations. Area church volunteers serve as staff, deliver food, interview clients, and stock the shelves.

SUNDAY SUPPERS

In partnership with Trinity United Methodist Church, our members help on the fifth Sunday of each month to cook, serve, and break bread together with persons in need of a meal. Trinity serves as the host site, and area churches rotate cooking the dinner.

COMMUNITY KIDS’ CLOSET

Each Spring and Fall, we partner with Community Kids’ Closet to provide new clothing for school children in Northwest Arkansas. CKC works with school staff to identify specific clothing items for children in need. Items/sizes are then posted on a display board beside the sanctuary and the congregation is invited to shop for what’s needed.

BUTTERFIELD TRAIL VILLAGE

With the vision of long-time members, First Christian partnered with four area churches to establish Butterfield Trail Village Retirement Community. First Christian leads Sunday vesper services for the residents on a rotating basis.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

When First Christian Church developed a friendship with a young college student studying at the University of Arkansas who was from Kinshasa, DRC, our hearts were open to the humanitarian, political and economic hardships affecting the Congolese people. Putting faith into action, we partnered with the Community of Disciples of Christ in Congo to build 9 wells, support girl’s education, micro-credit and skills-training programs, and raise funds for a rural hospital in Mbandaka. The church also supported one of its members on a mission visit to Congo.

WEEK OF COMPASSION

We support Week of Compassion. This is the relief, refugee and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. Through our giving, the mission fund seeks to alleviate suffering by providing disaster response and humanitarian aid as well as supporting sustainable development projects and mission opportunities.
